Hello everyone!
As you know, deep conditioning your hair is an essential part of every curly girl’s routine. Deep conditioners help maintain your hair moisturized, helps prevent damage, maintains har elasticity in order to prevent breakage, and even gives hair strength. Now, there are different types of deep conditioners in the market (you may need one that contains protein, or one that is more moisturizing) and it all depends on your hair and what it needs. If you are unsure, YouTube has PLENTY of videos in which breaks it down for you!
I have been more serious about taking care of my hair over the past year (which has allowed me to get away with straightening my hair from time to time with NO heat damage) and recently I even dyed my hair lighter. Lighter hair = more maintenance – since I was already used to babying my hair, I was up for the challenge.
I have found that my hair has been loving the products pictured above. I like to deep condition twice a week, and I also alternate the conditioners. Here is how I use them:
Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque and Righteous Roots oil – After I shampoo my hair, I gently squeeze out the excess water out of my hair. I then apply about 6 drops of the Righteous Roots oils on my fingertips and I start massaging my scalp. I apply some more throughout my hair, paying particular attention towards my ends. I then apply the Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque on my hair. At this point, you can either put on a heat cap (heck, or even a plastic bag) over your hair to make sure it penetrates, however, I like to use my Q-Redew handheld steamer. I rinse out my hair and style as usual.
Side note on the Righteous Roots oil: you don’t have to use it mixed with a deep conditioner if you don’t want to! You can use it as a hot oil treatment, or even as a pre-poo.
Shea Moisture High Porosity Moisture Correct Masque – For this one, I don’t usually start off by having my hair shampooed out (since I only use shampoo once a week, I cowash the rest of the week). I simply wet my hair and apply, and leave on for about 10 minutes before rinsing it out. This particular deep conditioner leaves my hair feeling extra silky and with a lot of slip.
When rinsing out your conditioner, make sure to use cool water to seal the hair cuticle. I will continue using these deep conditioners until something else catches my eye (I am always on the hunt for new products!)
What are your favorite deep conditioners?
